As sweet350z and the cap'n know I'm from Colorado.

Over the past 4 years we have been without a track when our old one, 2nd creek closed in '05

Finally with hard work, donations and a lot of volunteer effort we have our own track. Read the history link on the HPR web site.

www.highplainsraceway.com (http://www.highplainsraceway.com)

This track built, owned and operated by a collection of amatuer clubs in the denver area. We own the land, we built the track and we play on the track.

The Z Car Club of Colorado will be hosting our 2nd track event of the year for our club Sept 12th. We are also hosting a regional z event called the midwest zfest.

www.zccc.org (http://www.zccc.org) for more info.

Hopefully if you don't have any events going on in Sept you would consider joining us for zfest.

Welcome Darrel, glad to see you found us here after our other forum went thru terminal meltdown and we lost everything. I am sorry to say that Sept 12th is Utahs largest car show right here in Brigham City and after 4 years of serious domination in the sport compact class we have managed to win our own class, thanks to ZCOU Peach Days now has "Z car" class and our participation is of utmost importance now more than ever seeing how they completely eliminated the sport compact class from the car show. I know there will be some track events in Denver in the spring of 2010 so please let me know asap as alot of our members are very interested in doing a Denver trip that would include Rocky Mtn National Park and Estes Park...your new track would just be icing on the cake so to speak:p

This is no remanufactured track, it is brand spanking new. Granted it isn't a world class facility like Miller, but in time it will be. It would be great to have a turn-key track, but since most of this has been done on a limited budget by a lot of volunteers we can't have everything in place right off the bat like miller or hastings. But what we have done so far has been all centered around a basic facility. The amenities will have to wait while we save up more money.

I guess I didn't research it good enough for your other events, otherwise i wouldn't have posted it until our first event next year. Sorry about that.

Since the z club is part of one of the founding clubs we usually have 2 track events a year. Our first was may 23rd which was during the memorial day weekend. Even though it rained for most of the day we all had a great time on this very exciting track. 80' of elevation changes alone on "to hell on a bobsled", blind corners, you name it this track has it.

Our events are usually held the end of may or the first week of June and the 2nd week of sept. I should have the actual dates for next year by december.

Here's a report from the local scca dividion about our straw hat celebration that happened this past Saturday. There are other articles as well in the newsletter. "a ride in bruces car" and "soldiers in white"

Here is the local nissan owners group forum. Given time they are always looking to get together for visitors.

The MRA(motorcycle) will have the track the weekend of 28-30 of this month. Since they had to cancel their last 2 rounds this one should be a huge event for them.

If you have time you will have to check out the track. The track manager stays at the track and might be persuaded into giving you a ride around.

Read the history of the track on the home page for high plains raceway. Right now this track has the same facilites that 2nd creek had, sweet you know what that was like. 2nd creek did have one in door bathroom and that was about the only amenity it had over our new track.

This past winter I was among the few that bolted together and placed 16k tires along the walls and bunkers. In the whole group that did it, there were probably 10 that had put in more than 20 days throughout the winter. It was cold and very windy every day.

You can tell I'm excited about the track, hopefully soem of you will make it next year.

sounds like a really nice track.

Wow Darrel, thats alota work...alota dedication too. I have to say that this is the coolest thing ever, a track owned by the drivers(so to speak) Millers may be a world class track, but it come with a world class price too. Who knows what will come of Millers since Larry H died early this year, his wife and kids have control of everything now....As far as I know, Allen Wilson is still here running it tho...

May sounds really do-able if those date are close next year...we usually do our Vegas run in late April so that would give us about a month in between to recoupe and ready our rides for the track...we never get the track in Vegas, always those daymn Porsches lmao.

Really good to hear from you, its been a while....have you heard from Ballistic? He should know about this too, I'm sure he'd be down to run your track too:D I got some people in Vegas that maybe interested as well, once we get the dates from you, we can start planning something big. Look out Cinzettis :p

yeah, I knew you would be on here nismo, thanks for the welcome all.

sweet, ballistics been lurking around. I even met up with him when his truck broke down near denver and he was waiting for it to get fixed. The bad thing he was here for a full day without telling me so we only had a couple of hours before his truck was fixed. It was a good visit though. Too bad that we weren't able to visit the track at the time.

Since the clubs do own the track we don't have the "world class" prices. Full day open lapping is $150. If you go with the z club for non members it's $165, and member club price is $140. Thats because we usually have small numbers and have to pay for ambulance. But since our groups are small, we have lots of open track to enjoy yourself without all the traffic there is with open lapping.

2nd creek was always on borrowed time as it was leased land and with the houses coming over the hill it was never going to last long. But in the 8 yrs CMC managed the track they gave a good chunk of seed money for our new one($700K), $840k and counting from individual members donations and sponsors and with $2 mil in private placement loans(yes, even individual members are financing this for us) we got our track built with $3.5 mil and that includes the land bouthg and paid for. 460 acres with the first phase we are only using 220 acres, this first phase will also include a skid/autox pad when we get more money.

We did comtract with allen wilson on the safety aspects of the track, but the overall design, permitting, zoning etc came from Bill Howard who is a racer with the vintage group.

Here is the z club's matching donation brick.

I know I'm late coming to this post.... but Wow Darrel! That's really impressive! I would be up for another Denver meet too...but the Z is on bed rest until I can come up with the money to fix it. So next year sound good to me too.
Post some pics of the new track! I'd love to see what you guys have done.
Thanks for thinking of us.

Mike
